Director UX/ UI (f/m/d)

In your role as our Director of UX/UI you will be a key member of Spread Group’s future and play an active role in leading the design of our digital products and services.  

Spread Group has a 20-year history of successful growth in the print on demand market. In our effort to evolve the brand to the next level becoming more customer centric is one of our key initiatives. In order to accelerate growth, we want to evolve from being a service provider for garment refinement (in particular for print and embroidery on demand) to become a true brand in the eyes of our customers.  

To do so we are working to redefine our entire brand and domain strategy from the ground up and completely reimagine our digital experience to drive the future of made-to-order fashion and lifestyle e-commerce. Relaunching our approach to UX/UI and having an advocate for the Design Process at the Director level are important building blocks in this transformation. This role lives at the intersection of desirability, feasibility, and viability, to lead your team to align design strategies with our customers’ and business’ goals. 

Your Tasks 

  • You will lead and mentor an entire team of currently 9 FTEs – UX/UI Designers and User Researchers matrixed across the organization. As part of the role, you will assess the team’s skills and resource needs and hire additional resources where required 
  • You will work closely with external agencies and be the voice of design and aesthetics within the company.  
  • You will lead your team to establish and expand design systems and ensure consistency in the new design language of the company. 
  • Beyond the responsibility of UX/UI design for our 3 business fields, you will also advocate for the use of the design systems for other use cases, such as marketing channels and offline communication tools. 
  • You will build, mentor, and strengthen the skills and qualifications of the existing team of Designers and Researchers.  
  • As the company operates in many different European and American markets you can propose localized design approaches where needed. 
  • Your decisionmaking will always be led by the design thinking process and the latest UI standards, basing your decisions on analytics data, user research, and onsite KPIs. 
  • You will advocate for the customer throughout all stages of research, design, development, and go-to-market activities. 
  • You will collaborate closely with the Commercial Directors, the Director of Product and Product Owners, as well as the VP of Marketing/Brand. 
  • You will report to the Chief Commercial Officer. 

Your Profile 

  • You have at least 10 years of experience in UX/UI design of digital products and websites. Work experience in e-commerce and/or the consumer market are a plus. 
  • You have at least 3 years of experience managing and leading a design team (preferably a team with UX/UI Designers and Researchers). 
  • You employ a pragmatic approach in developing and executing design ideas with teams of Designers, Researchers, Business Leaders, Product Owners, and Engineers.  
  • You can lead people to turn complex interactions into intuitive user experiences. 
  • You have a proven track record of combining a strong design process with product development to create customer-centric, highly usable, and visually appealing digital experiences.  
  • You have experience working with a wide range of research methodologies. 
  • You have an excellent portfolio that shows your experience and process of designing digital experiences, apps, and websites at scale. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English.
